Optimizing shrimp farminng with Kampi
My role
I led the design efforts at Kampi, driving UX/UI design and a full design system overhaul to support growth while collaborating with stakeholders and product managers to shape the product strategy.

Kampi is an operations management software designed to help shrimp farmers streamline their harvest planning and maximize profitability. We grew from concept to signed agreements with 30 farms across 5 countries in Latin America.


PROBLEM STATEMENT
Shrimp farmers worldwide struggle to scale and protect margins as manual, time-intensive processes prevent them from optimizing harvests, leading to inefficiencies and lost profits.

Frustration grows as farmers spend 4 hours daily on outdated, inefficient tools, struggling with error-prone calculations and a lack of clear data to make confident decisions.

Broke language barriers to get honest feedback
We adapted our research by using Google Meet captions, translators, and real-data prototypes to overcome language barriers. These adjustments helped farmers share honest feedback despite cultural and communication challenges, giving us deeper insight into their daily operations.
Identified the key pain points in harvest planning
Through our research, we learned that farmers relied on outdated tools like spreadsheets, which made interpreting raw data and planning efficiently difficult. They struggled to understand key harvest metrics, which impacted their ability to make timely decisions.
Uncovered the need for flexible, custom solutions
Our research also revealed that farmers’ operations varied greatly, requiring flexibility in how data was presented. Each farm had unique conditions and constraints, making it essential for tools to adapt to their specific workflows and data needs.
Going beyond traditional research to drive smarter design solutions

Data visualization streamlines planning and increases profits.
As we dove into the farmers' harvest planning process, one challenge became clear—they lacked a way to visualize their data. So, we introduced tools that turned their key harvesting information into clear, actionable visuals. With a 60-day harvest projection at their fingertips, farmers could now pinpoint the most profitable days to harvest without spending long hours crunching numbers. It was a game-changer, transforming their hard work into smarter, more efficient decision-making.

Customizable tables build trust and accelerate decisions.
We realized farmers needed clear insights to trust Kampi’s calculations and adjust their plans for better profits. Spreadsheets offered raw data without context, making verification difficult. To solve this, I designed customizable tables with visual indicators for optimal dates, alerts, and updates, allowing farmers to tailor data to their unique conditions. By automating these processes, farmers made harvest decisions 2.4x faster, relying on transparent insights instead of guesswork.

While this case study highlights two core features, Optima includes many more innovations designed to make farming smarter, faster, and more profitable.
